A pair of butterfly sculptures that are much larger than life-size now adorn the new Imagination Alley on the square in Jefferson thanks to a $2,000 donation by the Jefferson Garden Club. Hilde DeBruyne of Cumming is the designer of these additions to the unique and engaging alley design. DeBruyne’s sculptural art has been installed all over the United States and has also been featured in Jefferson’s Ring Out for Art contest.
The Garden Club could choose from several different butterflies and members chose the purple and gold ones to coordinate with colors of the mural on which the sculptures are located. DeBruyne said the process of creating the butterfly art took months from designing them to cutting, welding, powder coat painting and installing. The butterflies were installed with other elements to complete the alley for the ribbon cutting and grand opening event on May 10.
To raise funds for community beautification, a mission of the Garden Club, the organization hosts biennial holiday Tours of Homes as fundraisers. The next tour will be Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024. “We are grateful for the support of the tours by home hosts and attendees,” said Garden Club president Deb Kucerak. “It’s a fun day that helps launch the holiday season and really gets people in the holiday spirit.”
The proceeds are used for projects such as the butterflies as well as the upkeep of Memorial Garden on Lincoln Way across from the Milwaukee Depot where Garden Club installed art panels several years ago.
